gawd. get ready for some tl;dr

BOSS FIRST! Boss still really likes Hiryuu but has promptly friendzoned himself because he is not pure enough for this but he respects Hiryuu a lot and in a way sees them as having complimentary roles. This was definitely more emphasized by the new arrangement where Hiryuu is the one standing at the front and he's going to be doing less of that and more of the sneaking around (LIKE THE CRIMINAL HE IS). He still worries about her pushing herself too much, but also was really glad that even with the shit that went down with the game, Hiryuu wasn't (entirely) judging and fussed at him instead. He is kind of tired of being caught on lows, though. When stop that?

There is another hand, however. And that hand is that Boss sees that Hiryuu is a member of an upper class and not just that but one that's used to pretty much Absolute Power? Like... monarchies... how does... but their little bantering about crashing fancy balls was definitely kind of telling in that her first thought was that he'd get locked up in the dungeons instead of just... y'know. kicking. the riffraff out. Which he laughed off, but he definitely kind of quietly put that in a mental file of This Is What's Norm For Her? (yes, with a question mark because it doesn't mean she APPROVES of it). He did kind of wonder if she did have an internalized kind of... looking down at him because of him being a criminal and having those different approaches, BUT she's never really given him that impression in their interactions.

If anything, she treated the whole situation with about as much grace as anyone could manage, and even tried to prop him up when he was feeling like a straight up failure. So he KNOWS she's a good person and a decent leader and doesn't necessarily fall in line with the traditions of her kingdom (maybe...). But in a way, there's also a bit of feeling of "if you do this, you can be seen in a better light" and that feels kind of penance-y when Boss feels like he and his unit don't owe the society in Imeeji penance--they just owe the teams they hurt whatever they'd like to try to soothe the pain? That's probably NOT what she meant, but Boss is currently in a weird headspace of acknowledging that his trust points are low (he does remember being betrayed, though it was apparently Expected) and having that buttonmashed for him is... hmmm... it's not good. But that's largely because he already has Issues about being viewed as a criminal/trash/etc and not because anyone's really said it to him (yet...).

Anyway, that all aside, he wants Hiryuu to succeed, so he'll do his best to support her from the background. He's not great at taking orders and he's a wild card when it comes to predictability (reasons... he needed... to step down...) but he'll definitely work to support those efforts and make it easier to Hiryuu where he can. she just might not always approve of his methods. But at least they seem to easily be on the same page on What Needs To Be Done For The Good Of The Rebellion. lololol...
