I'm still a student, after all. Sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day.

You can always quit your job if it's getting to be too much.
Unless you're working to keep a roof over your head.
But even then...

For better or worse, that's not an option for me.

Why is that?

There are a number of reasons. If it were only money, I could get an easier job, though admittedly I would have a difficult time supporting myself on the jobs available to most teenagers.

It's more that for someone like me to make a place for myself in the world or do anything meaningful with my life, I'm going to need to work twice as hard as anyone else.

That's a simple fact no matter what kind of job I take. Isn't it better, then, to do something I'm passionate about?

You do have a thing about personal boundaries, so I thought it fit.

Don't worry. I know plenty of socially awkward people and they all do fine once they stop caring what other people think.

Yes, but I feel as though you've made some unfair assumptions here.

And the idea that you can simply not care what others think is naive at best.

I was thinking more along the lines of "deluded" or "willfully ignorant."

Maybe this kind of attitude won't be accepted by society at large, but that was already the case before I had a say in anything.

I understand how you feel, but are you really giving up on being accepted by society?

Weirdly, there are strange people who care about the me society says is no good. I'm fine with it like that.

But I do want better for others who aren't so lucky, so I guess change is necessary. Yoshida-san has a better way of phrasing things like this than I do.

That's a noble sentiment, but not a practical one. How are you going to change a society that doesn't respect you?

He's taught me quite a lot about how to start with that sort of thing.

That's right. I've seen him speaking at the station. I didn't know you were interested in politics.

Not really politics. But he knows how things work in that area better than I do. He's made mistakes, but he doesn't hide from them. He puts himself in the spotlight to highlight the problems, instead. I find that admirable.

He seems sincere. It would be a better world if all politicians were like him.

But what's the point? It's not as if the others will let him back into the club.

It's not about that. It's harder to spread ideas from a soapbox while being mocked and insulted the whole while, but it's not impossible.

Maybe this is my being naive, but even if he never is in office again, if one person who heard him manages to enact a change he hoped for the future, then he's done his part, hasn't he?
